However, the main question is how does one become purified and how is it possible to continuously polish one's heart until the point of death. The first thing (before the cleansing process) that one should recognize is what are the impurities in oneself. So we don't have to search for some "holy man" if that's what you are referring to here. These ways are nothing but a deviation from The Straight Path. History is proof of what Sufis has done in Turkey, Morocco, Egypt, India etc. I personally have seen the destruction of whole generations following the deviant path of Sufism..
