Description:
Several times in June, Fox News falsely claimed that a case that may be reviewed by the US Supreme Court allows the words "marriage" and "natural family" to be punished as "hate speech" in government workplaces. In this video, I provide examples of these erroneous reports and point out the specific errors. The two federal rulings that Fox News erroneously described are from the case of GOOD NEWS EMPLOYEE ASSOCIATION v. HICKS. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling in that case is available at: http://www.ca9.uscourts.gov/coa/memdispo.nsf/pdfview/030507/$File/05-15467.PDF The federal district court ruling is at: http://www.oaklandcityattorney.org/PDFS/Opinions/GoodNewsruling2-2005.pdf Finally, this video means I now have TWO DOZEN examples of Fox News Bias on my Fox News Bias YouTube playlist at: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=A3BD2524FE99BD4D |

LiberalViewer ::: Favorites FairMindedCitizen, But, as I already pointed out, errors and spin are not cured by citing a secondary source when the primary source (the ruling) is available. And, again, Hume erroneously reported about the RULING when he said: "The Supreme Court has been asked to reverse RULINGS that found the terms 'marriage,' and 'natural family,' and 'union of a man and a woman' can be punished as 'hate speech' in government workplaces." Thx 4 comments :-) 07-07-29 23:10:26 _____________________________________________________
medley007 ::: Favorites I was stopped By a US Marshall, with a cowboy hat, and pinned in the dead center of it is a Gold Cross. Directly On The Uniform of a US Marshall. I have seen the EXACT same on other cowboy marshalls. All trying 2 B good men, but I am white and a man..and I had 2 kissed butt 2 avoid a tickets. THEN I was "witnessed to" for 2-3 hours by the Marshall on our tax payers time" JUST Plain WRONG, a Very Nice Man. Just Very In appropriate and Illegal I would think. Abuse Of Power, Bigtime. Take Care. 07-07-30 16:33:25 _____________________________________________________
FairMindedCitizen ::: Favorites Prior to the Fox News report, what did they report about this case? I think you're assuming they never reported anything and are picking up in the middle. The fact is Hume correctly reported what was in the SCOTUS Appeal brief and the Washington Times story and that's what the report was about, NOT the initial ruling you keep going back to. Again, the story was about the Appeal brief to SCOTUS and the Washington Times story NOT about the initial case or its ruling. 07-07-30 19:07:44 _____________________________________________________
ItsTheSarge ::: Favorites Once again, Fox News distorts reality. They are all members of SCREW (Severely Conservatives Republicans Employed by 'W'). Boycott the Faux News Channel. 07-07-31 00:54:04 _____________________________________________________
OrangeBull ::: Favorites In answer to your second question. In a fairly "liberal" government agency, the answer is the GLBT community is the subject of more descrimination. Including economic harms. 07-07-31 02:00:52 _____________________________________________________
werebear1 ::: Favorites I would say the Christians. It seems like being gay or a member of any minority gives you so many privileges! Question; If there wasn't any tax breaks for being married, do you think Gays would be so bound to force the government to grant them marriage recognition? Think about it... 07-07-31 16:41:33 _____________________________________________________
ruediix ::: Favorites Look at it completely non-biased. The government in the US is not suppose to allow religion to interfere with it's decisions. Thus I will phrase it this way: How would you feel if you could not get the government to acknowledge the monogamous relationship between you and the person you love. Going so far as to disallow you to even have it labeled "legal union." Just to make it clear I am Christian and Straight and I can understand this. 07-07-31 21:50:31 _____________________________________________________
ruediix ::: Favorites The issue of exaggerating such things is common. The person could have even moved the flier to their own office. It is a matter of weight. As a Christian I find that a lot of Christians fail in one of the most basic Christian principles. That being: Judge not lest ye be judged. If people are offended by such actions they have a right to be. It puts a bad face on Christianity. My heart breaks every time I see it. 07-07-31 21:53:42 _____________________________________________________
ruediix ::: Favorites Personally I am a progressive Christian. I don't know if you can relate to that, though. The bias was in the presentation, not in the actual facts given. This is a common technique used by press, and is known to be bad journalism. If you noted, the author did point out when they brought the true facts to the table, but that was too late and the damage was done. 07-07-31 21:56:37 _____________________________________________________
FairMindedCitizen ::: Favorites If a bias exists it is in the appeal brief submitted to the SCOTUS, not the Fox News report... 07-07-31 22:53:38 _____________________________________________________ |
